Cirrus Logic Makes Unsolicited Bid for Synaptics Ahead of Onsemi Deal Closure

Author

A report from Sina Finance said Cirrus Logic made an unsolicited approach to acquire Synaptics last month, aiming to disrupt Synaptics' merger with Onsemi.

The updated Synaptics proxy filing identifies the party labeled A as Cirrus Logic, and sources said it remained unclear whether Cirrus Logic would press ahead with the bid.

Cirrus Logic's cash-and-stock offer prompted Onsemi to revise the Synaptics deal to an all-cash structure, lifting the per-share offer to $123.

Onsemi said the adjustment was driven by a competing unsolicited acquisition proposal, but it did not disclose the bidder at the time.

The Synaptics board evaluated Cirrus Logic's approach and negotiated with the company before concluding that Onsemi's revised bid was in shareholders' best interests.

Onsemi first announced its Synaptics deal in June to expand its semiconductor business for smart devices.

Stock moves after the news showed Cirrus Logic down about 6% to $106.87, giving it a market value of about $5.4 billion; Onsemi down about 2% to $77.53, with a market value around $30.2 billion; Synaptics up about 0.6% to $119.82, valuing the company at about $4.8 billion.

B3 Targets H1 2027 for Securities Tokenization Platform, Plans Stablecoin

Author

Brazil's B3, the nation's largest stock exchange, is aiming to roll out a securities tokenization trading platform in the first half of 2027. The tokenized securities are expected to be interchangeable with conventional shares and to reflect the same price and liquidity levels, according to Odaily.

The launch had originally been scheduled for the second half of 2026 but has been pushed back to the first half of 2027.

Humberto Costa, B3's Products and OTC Strategy Director, said the tokenized securities would be issued based on existing assets rather than being primarily on-chain, and settlement would continue to follow the current two-business-day cycle.

B3 is also planning to issue its own stablecoin and will seek authorization from Brazil's central bank to operate digital assets and custody services. It remains to be seen whether Brazilian depositary receipts and exchange-traded funds will be incorporated into the platform's infrastructure, and around-the-clock trading or instant settlement would require regulatory approval or a new framework.

Aero Announces Oct. 21 Launch for Aerodrome–Velodrome Merger and Token Swap Terms

Author

Aero has published the terms and timeline for merging Aerodrome and Velodrome, with the swap process slated to begin at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on October 21. At launch, emissions from the legacy platforms end; existing AERO will convert 1:1 into the new AERO, and each VELO will swap for roughly 0.044 AERO, applying the same ratio to both circulating and locked tokens.

ChainCatcher notes that the VELO conversion ratio will depend on the supply available at launch, while Aerodrome holders will receive 94.5% of the new token supply and Velodrome holders 5.5%. DeFiLlama’s data shows the two platforms combined had about $422 million in total value locked as of October 9.

The merger was first announced in November 2025, with Dromos Labs originally targeting completion in the second quarter of 2026. The new model moves away from a weekly voting cycle toward real-time allocation, and sAERO holders will be able to direct rewards to liquidity pools and earn from exchange revenue, subject to a 47-hour cooldown at the start of allocation changes.

Existing veAERO and veVELO positions will convert into new sAERO positions, with any remaining lock time carried over and rounded up to the nearest week. Permanent locks will become the longest-duration stake within the system.

Tokens will not convert automatically. Holders in self-custody must use the upgrade portals on aerodrome.finance or velodrome.finance after claiming rewards, rebasing, and clearing active votes.

High-Yield Junk Bonds Signal Caution as Yields Reach 8.1%

Author

The junk-bond market is showing cracks as investors demand higher yields for riskier debt. Current high-yield rates have risen to 8.1%, up from 7.22% a month ago. Credit spreads across the market have widened to about 315 basis points, while the lowest-rated CCC-and-below segment sees spreads near 1,250 basis points.

Michael Arone, chief investment strategist at State Street Investment Management, said the market is flashing yellow—a warning signal—yet remains far from a crisis.

Kelley Gerrity of Morgan Stanley Investment Management noted that credit quality overall sits at a record high, with BB bonds making up more than 60% of the market compared with about 38% before the global financial crisis.

Collin Martin of the Schwab Center for Financial Research said the widening has been orderly and that it is too early to conclude stress is spreading through the broader credit market.

Investors are watching for a steeper widening in the broader high-yield sector, particularly in the BB tranche, where spreads sit around 194 basis points, up from 179 basis points a year earlier.

R.J. Gallo, chief investment officer for global fixed income at Federated Hermes, said high yield tends to come under pressure when the economy moves toward a sharp downturn, though he does not view a recession as the most likely outcome at this time.

Trump Moves to Use Defense Production Act to Boost Oil and Diesel Output

Author

Reuters, via Jin10, reports that President Donald Trump plans to direct certain department heads to identify methods for curbing diesel prices as U.S. diesel costs sit near record highs ahead of the midterm elections.

The initiative could be issued as a presidential memorandum and would urge agencies to sidestep local and state rules that restrict energy production while considering invoking the Defense Production Act, a Cold War-era authority, to increase oil and fuel output.

Address Loses 80 BTC After Transferring to Ledger Wallet

Author

An on-chain tracker says the address acquired 80 BTC roughly four months ago for about $5.2 million, averaging around $65,000 per BTC, and it carried an unrealized profit of approximately $1.38 million at one point, according to Lookonchain.

Odaily adds that the same address bought a Ledger hardware wallet from reseller CryptoBillis about a week earlier and transferred all 80 BTC to the device, after which the holdings were described as completely lost.

Cramer Sets Starbucks Buy Level as He Notes Three New Club Buys

Author

The market was not particularly strong on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq posting modest gains that were offset by higher bond yields and flat oil. Apple slid about 2% after a report of softer component orders, while Nvidia traded near the flat line as the AI trade remained under pressure.

Cramer noted that elevated yields, higher oil prices and inflation concerns led the CNBC Investing Club to add to positions in Kimberly-Clark, FedEx and Bank of New York on Thursday. The purchases were described as small shifts intended to balance exposure to AI and data-center-related names, and he indicated a tendency to pause trades on Friday.

On Starbucks, he said he had been contemplating buying more shares on Thursday after chatter that the company might pursue a Chipotle acquisition weighed on the stock. He suggested that if the stock fell to about $90 and signs emerged that Starbucks would not buy Chipotle, it could present an attractive entry point. He added that a Chipotle deal does not seem aligned with Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol's typical approach.

Ledger investigates Southeast Asia asset theft linked to CryptoBilis-distributed devices

Author

Ledger is examining an asset-theft incident tied to Southeast Asia customers who purchased Ledger devices through the CryptoBilis distributor.

The company has asked CryptoBilis to suspend sales and shipments and advised customers who bought devices from the distributor in the past 90 days not to initialize them.

Users who have already completed setup should create a new Ledger signing device with a fresh seed phrase and move assets to a new wallet.

On-chain investigators estimate hundreds of wallets across the Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tron networks have been compromised, with losses surpassing $86 million.

Security researcher tanuki42 previously estimated losses above $72 million and noted that the total was still rising. The exact cause of the incident and whether the devices contain a vulnerability remain under investigation.

Dragonfly Partner Questions 'Bunker Mode' as AI-Driven Crypto Signature Risk Fix

Author

Dragonfly Managing Partner Haseeb Qureshi characterized Justin Drake’s bunker mode as cryptographic doomerism and argued that moving tokens to new addresses does not address the core risk. He noted that the proposal would only shield assets that have not yet moved, while other addresses could still lose value if attacked and large-scale selling occurs.

Qureshi proposed an alternative called Cryptographic Recovery Mode, which relies on a hash-based backup signature framework. The idea would allow users to pre-bind a recovery mechanism so validators could help restore assets if a cryptographic signature is compromised.

Drake has warned that, as AI capabilities advance, the ECDSA signature scheme used to protect wallets could be broken in months rather than years, and he has urged users to gradually move funds to new wallets whose public keys have not been exposed.

Recent Glassnode data indicate roughly 6.26 million BTC are held in addresses that may face potential risk.

Ripple Challenges Banks in Leveraged ETF Swap Financing

Author

Ripple is entering the swap-financing market for leveraged ETFs, challenging traditional Wall Street banks, The Wall Street Journal reported. NS3.AI says Ripple joined the space last year after acquiring prime broker Hidden Road for about $1.25 billion.

Morningstar Direct counts 593 leveraged ETFs in the United States, with assets totaling more than $256 billion. Nonbank firms are gaining ground as banks tighten risk controls and as newer issuers lack established banking relationships.

Dan Aronson of Janus Henderson warned that a single-day stock move of 50% or more could wipe out a fund and leave Ripple exposed to losses.

In related market action, XRP slid about 6% on Thursday.

Stocks Reach Record High as AI Leaders Mask Wider Market Weakness

Author

A Jin10 briefing notes that U.S. President Donald Trump has long tied the stock market's performance to his political standing. The S&P 500 rose to a fresh high this week, driven mainly by a small group of AI beneficiaries, while broader signals of weakness in the economy and financial markets persisted.

With the midterm elections less than a month away, market gains that Trump has associated with Republican support could instead pose political risk.

Shares in the consumer, travel, transportation, real estate and financial sectors have posted declines, and the median S&P 500 stock is down about 4.3% over the past month.

Notable strength in Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Nvidia and the broader semiconductor sector has masked weaknesses across much of the market.

On Tuesday the S&P 500 reached a record high even as only 30% of its components traded above their 50-day moving averages, a breadth narrowness that compares unfavorably with even the weakest record highs during the 1998-2000 internet bubble, when 41% of members were in uptrends.

Strategy's STRC Liquidity Tied to Buybacks, Research Finds

Author

Keyrock's analysis indicates that Strategy's share repurchases represented more than 20% of STRC's weekly trading volume in nearly every week of September.

NS3.AI reports that about $1.45 billion of Strategy's $2 billion buyback authorization had been utilized by October 4, leaving roughly $547.2 million available.

STRC typically sees around $150 million in daily trading volume, yet market depth appears to weaken sharply when the price moves away from the $100 level.

The study did not assess how much liquidity might vanish in the absence of Strategy's purchases, nor whether the buybacks were the cause of the observed trading-volume relationship.

Shareholders are set to vote on October 28 on daily dividend payments, which Strategy says could bolster price stability and attract institutional demand.

Societe Generale's Edwards warns AI rally may echo 1990s bubble amid weak productivity

Author

Albert Edwards, Societe Generale's global chief strategist based in London, warned that today's AI enthusiasm carries echoes of the mid-1990s period of excess and cheap capital that bred misallocation of resources.

Torsten Slok, Apollo Global Management's chief economist, published a note arguing that total factor productivity remains weak, even as AI-driven investment activity and lofty equity valuations suggest a boom in progress.

Edwards drew a parallel with Asia's late-1990s crisis and the later U.S. internet bubble, cautioning that the current AI rally could be vulnerable to a similar reevaluation. He acknowledged the possibility that the AI dividend has not yet shown up in productivity data because the phenomenon is still early, but remained skeptical of the non-bubble view.

He also referenced Rob Parenteau, formerly of Allianz, whose analysis indicates gross corporate investment rising quickly while net investment has moved little. If U.S. corporate investment strength is mostly nominal rather than real, Edwards argued, that would support his cautious stance on the AI rally.

In market performance, State Street's technology sector ETF has gained about 40% this year, while the semiconductor-focused ETF has nearly doubled.

BitBay Attack Causes About $14,000 Loss, SlowMist Says

Author

SlowMist reported an attack on BitBay that resulted in losses of about $14,000.

Foresight News attributes the issue to the Vault's withdraw() function, which transfers the contract's full token balance when liquidity is zero instead of restricting redemptions to the caller's share.

The attacker used reposition() to drive liquidity to zero, then redeemed a single minimum share unit and withdrew roughly 14,838.47 DAI.

BTC Whale Sets Stop-Loss Levels Below $79k, Exits Longs on Daily Close Under $78k

Odaily cites a post from the Bitcoin whale Set Ten Big Goals on X, saying macro headwinds—rising U.S. Treasury yields, expectations for further rate hikes, and higher oil prices—have coincided with a roughly 5% pullback in BTC.

The trader reportedly does not expect BTC to fall directly to 78,000 or 74,000, but has set risk controls: trim positions if BTC trades below 79,000 and close all remaining long positions if the daily close falls below 78,000.
