AI pioneer Andrew Ng pushed back on warnings that more capable AI models could threaten humanity, describing those concerns as largely science fiction rather than scientific consensus, according to Bloomberg.

He noted that AI systems will never be fully predictable, but ongoing testing, safeguards, and engineering work can make them safer over time.

Ng also cautioned that broadly slowing the pace of AI development could slow progress on safety improvements.
