More Than 20 Missing After Flash Floods Hit Grand Canyon Area
The National Park Service said flash flooding swept through parts of the Grand Canyon on Saturday, affecting Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area. The event occurred around 14:30 local time (22:30 BST). About 62 people had been airlifted out so far, with more expected, and no injuries have been reported. The flooding caused significant damage in some areas and led to the closure of trails in the region.
Forecasters cautioned that more thunderstorms and heavy rainfall were expected on Sunday and Monday, which could bring additional flash flooding, debris flows, rockfall and changing trail and river conditions.
