Seres to Lead Aito Operations as Huawei Shifts to Support Role
Seres and Huawei are reconfiguring their Aito smart-car partnership, shifting product, marketing, sales and service responsibilities from Huawei-led to Seres-led operations. Huawei will continue to provide support, and Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance will redirect more resources to Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro and Shangjie, according to Jiemian News.
The change grants Seres greater control over Aito pricing, technology procurement and service spending. Jiemian notes that Seres has been preparing a more flexible, asset-light approach through initiatives like AIVA, where Seres subsidiary Saidu Technology has collaborated with Volcano Engine on large-model and smart-cockpit technologies.
In its interim results for the first half of 2026, Seres reported revenue of 57.493 billion yuan, with a net loss attributable to shareholders of 1.717 billion yuan. Sales expenses were 8.471 billion yuan and research and development expenditure stood at 3.734 billion yuan. Impairment charges reduced net profit attributable to shareholders by about 1.751 billion yuan, as revenue from existing models fell short while technology upgrades progressed.
Under the new structure, Seres could acquire more functions on demand—such as intelligent driving, smart-cockpit systems and after-sales services—while keeping a larger share of related decision-making in-house.
