Victoria's government has launched Australia’s inaugural offshore wind auction, initiating a request-for-proposals process for a 2-gigawatt project.

The project is anticipated to supply electricity for roughly 1.5 million homes. The auction is set to close in August next year, with related contracts expected to be finalised in the second half of 2027.

Energy Minister Jacqueline Symes noted the state possesses world‑leading offshore wind resources and described the auction as a major step toward delivering Australia’s first offshore wind projects.
