Latino lawmakers urge Beshear to invest $10 million in Texas governor race

Author

Dozens of Latino lawmakers and leaders are pressing Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who chairs the Democratic Governors Association, to commit $10 million to Texas’ gubernatorial contest, the letter obtained by Axios shows.

The letter contends that failing to invest would send a signal to Latino voters ahead of the 2026 and 2028 elections, and it notes that Texas state Rep. Gina Hinojosa has come closer than any recent candidate to winning the governorship without major DGA support.

Beshear said he expects more investment but would not specify a figure, arguing that publicly naming an amount could aid the Republican Governors Association. He also said the DGA is already covering expenses and providing staff.

DGA communications director Sam Newton said the group will be ready to capitalize on opportunities in the race.

The letter was also signed by Texas Reps. Greg Casar and Joaquin Castro, who argued that an Abbott victory would influence the U.S. House and said Gov. Greg Abbott could advance gerrymandering, potentially eliminating up to 10 additional Democratic-held congressional seats over the next four years.

Kalshi Settles Michigan Market Early, Reverses Payouts After Outcome Change

Author

Kalshi prematurely settled its Western Michigan vs. Michigan market before the game concluded, distributing payouts to the losing side and then reversing them after the result changed.

BeInCrypto cited the market as generating about $18.6 million in volume, and Kalshi subsequently reimbursed the incorrectly paid losers and paid Michigan holders last.

Kalshi's sports account noted a specific example: a $2,265 Western Michigan position that would have paid $93,201.

The sequence followed a Michigan court order on September 1 barring Kalshi from offering sports contracts in the state, with a $500,000 daily penalty.
