South African authorities intercepted 50 eggs believed to be from endangered parrots at Johannesburg's main airport last Thursday, with reports that some of the eggs have hatched since.

A 50-year-old Thai national was arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle the eggs in a homemade incubator bag carried as hand luggage, according to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.
