Latino lawmakers urge Beshear to invest $10 million in Texas governor race

Author

Dozens of Latino lawmakers and leaders are pressing Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who chairs the Democratic Governors Association, to commit $10 million to Texas’ gubernatorial contest, the letter obtained by Axios shows.

The letter contends that failing to invest would send a signal to Latino voters ahead of the 2026 and 2028 elections, and it notes that Texas state Rep. Gina Hinojosa has come closer than any recent candidate to winning the governorship without major DGA support.

Beshear said he expects more investment but would not specify a figure, arguing that publicly naming an amount could aid the Republican Governors Association. He also said the DGA is already covering expenses and providing staff.

DGA communications director Sam Newton said the group will be ready to capitalize on opportunities in the race.

The letter was also signed by Texas Reps. Greg Casar and Joaquin Castro, who argued that an Abbott victory would influence the U.S. House and said Gov. Greg Abbott could advance gerrymandering, potentially eliminating up to 10 additional Democratic-held congressional seats over the next four years.

Kalshi Settles Michigan Market Early, Reverses Payouts After Outcome Change

Kalshi's sports account noted a specific example: a $2,265 Western Michigan position that would have paid $93,201.

The sequence followed a Michigan court order on September 1 barring Kalshi from offering sports contracts in the state, with a $500,000 daily penalty.

Energy Secretary Sees Potential Decline in Gasoline Prices After Labor Day

Author

Axios reported that Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that lower gasoline prices would not be an unreasonable expectation, but he did not offer a precise forecast. Speaking on CBS's Face the Nation and CNN's State of the Union, he noted that U.S. gasoline demand typically eases after Labor Day as the summer driving season ends while refinery output is expected to rise. He also pointed to administration steps aimed at relaxing certain environmental requirements for summer gasoline blends and cited expectations for lower gasoline futures in the months ahead.

On Sunday, U.S. regular gasoline averaged $4.15 per gallon according to AAA data, while diesel prices remain near record highs. Crude oil was trading near a six-week high, with the global benchmark above $96 per barrel at Friday's close.

U.S. Navy Escort Through Hormuz to Continue as Oil Traffic Recovers

Author

Citing Jin10, U.S. Energy Secretary Wright said on Sunday that Navy escort vessels are assisting tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz and that the escort operation will continue into the foreseeable future.

Wright noted that the Navy views the protection of shipping as essential, that U.S. involvement is necessary, and that Iran continues to provoke trouble, but the Navy is prevailing in the effort.

He said the average daily oil flow through the Strait now exceeds 9 million barrels, and that the region’s transport of crude and refined products has recovered to two-thirds or more of its pre-crisis level as more routes and pipelines move supplies.

Last week, he cited that about 17 million barrels passed through on a Monday.

Wright also indicated that unleaded gasoline prices may ease as the summer driving season ends and federal blending policy adjustments increase supply.

AI reshapes liquidity provision, but meme coin trading still driven by human judgment, says Ignas

Author

DeFi researcher Ignas said on X that the AI era has not fundamentally changed how meme coins are traded. Odaily reports that Grok generally bases meme recommendations on historical signals such as viewer counts, trading volume, and post activity on X.

Ignas emphasized that successful meme coin trading still depends on human judgment about a project’s breakout potential, including market sentiment, community dynamics, narrative appeal, and whether influential promoters suddenly back it. He noted that staying online around the clock to monitor sentiment still outpaces asking AI once per day what to buy.

Beyond trading, Ignas described AI as altering liquidity provision approaches. He described an AI agent that can automatically scan liquidity pools and evaluate metrics like trading volume, fee behavior, liquidity depth, and viable price ranges. While the methodology is still being refined, he said the framework is capable of continuous improvement and compounding returns over time.

He added that if meme coin trading and constant online monitoring aren’t ideal, using AI to learn and execute liquidity provision strategies could be a more approachable skill to master.

US Drafts Postwar Iran Containment Strategy for the Middle East

Author

The U.S. government is drafting a postwar strategy aimed at containing Iran, seeking to rally regional partners and push for normalization with Israel, according to Jiemian News.

Two U.S. officials and two other people familiar with the matter said the plan remains in an early stage and could require several more weeks to complete.

The draft identifies three main elements: building a regional front to contain Iran with the United States as guarantor; advancing the second phase of the Gaza peace plan to help Israel reach security arrangements with Syria and implement a ceasefire framework with Lebanon; and expanding the Abraham Accords to bring Israel into closer relations with additional Arab states, notably Saudi Arabia.

The plan is intended to guide U.S. Middle East policy in the final two years of President Donald Trump's term after the war ends.

The report noted that Israel's October 27 election and the U.S. congressional midterms in November could affect the plan. It also stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly rejected the Gaza peace plan, while Israeli forces continue strikes in Lebanon and Syria and have not fully withdrawn.
